Scan to Folder Mac OS 10.11 Using MPC4500

Anyone know why we can't get scan to SMB Folder to work on the MAC ? It is SMB Compliant and we set up a shared SMB Folder.

    Thanks

I don't know too much about Ricoh's, but I imagine this MFP doesn't support the SMBX protocol that the Mac OS has been using since 10.7. SMBX supports SMB v2 so if the MFP supports that then all should be good. That being said hopefully Apple hasn't changed things yet again with the SMB protocol.

You may need to try FTP:

There was a custom firmware released for OS X 10.7 & 10.8. You might need to install check the version of NCS on the MP C4500. This is a different custom firmware than the one for Windows 8 and server 2012. This one has a later release date so it may also work with Windows 8 and Server 2012.

The latest MAC OS do not support SMB scanning. Neither Ricoh or Apple have fixed that issue.

Also be sure that if you are using a host name to scan to, that the Mac's host name is no more tHan 15 characters.

I forgot what it is for Windows, other than it's greater than 15.

If the Mac has its IP address assigned by DHCP, you may be forced to use the host name.

If if the address is static, use the IP address.

i tried for months, but the easiest way is scan to FTP, its very easy to setup, the only thing you have to do is to enable the FTP SERVICE on the MAC, with one of the enabling tools, then you can create a new user for the scans, or use the current user, i experienced that if you try to scan in a folder it doesn't work, even if the folder is shared in the network, but if you scan to the users Home folder it works without problems!!

To setup the MPC, try the following, after enabling the FTP SERVICE on the MAC:
    - go to the scan settings on the MPC
    - go to insert destination manually
    - press FTP (default is SMB)
    - SERVERNAME : mac's IP ADRESS
    -PATH: insert NOTHING here
    -USER: mac username
    -PASSWORD: users password

    thats all!

Re: Scan to Folder Mac OS 10.11 Using MPC4500

There is a way to get scan to folder to work on OS X Yosemite and El Capitan, but not for the MPC4500 as that model is too old.

It involves disabling SMB signing on OS X via the terminal and increasing the SMB authentication level on the MFD via telnet.

But generally it's far easier to configure and use Scan to FTP as mentioned above, and that will work with the MPC4500 to.

I had a similar issue recently where we needed to disable SMB signing on a Linux based ( just as Apple OSX is) NAS server.

It took a Wireshark packet capture to find the problem, and even at that the problem wasn't obvious.
