    Ricoh Aficio 1035

This post will have three different issues that I've had with these machines lately. Each will be spaced out, indicating that each is a separate post.

    1. What would cause the settings in SP-3103 to be zero other than what the service manual says they should be? I've replaced the drum, developer, ID sensor, and cleaned and/or swapped out the suggested PCB's. What else might I be overlooking?

    2. What does "cram" mean as found in Gooses guide as a solution for an SC-350? Would the NVRAM only cause the copier not to hold information, or can it also prevent the copier from getting information such as executing SP-3001 and then checking SP-3003 settings and finding no values?

    3. If the copier can run in pixel mode, should that isolate as to what would cause the SC-350 error codes?

Thank you for any and all help given.

    I'll take a shot at #3-
I don't think pixel mode will not do much to help with finding the cause of that error code, as I was led to believe it is based on an internal calculation rather than any sensor. And not a very good calculation either, from the one time I tried it.
So I suppose it might help if a bad ID sensor is unable to see the patch. I can't say I've ever seen an ID sensor go bad though, more likely a patch with insufficient density.

and 2 both relate to the Re: Ricoh Aficio 1035

1 and 2 both relate to the ID sensor's detection of the ID patch on the drum. Since you say that you have replaced the ID sensor and assuming that you replaced it with a new sensor, then you might want to check the wiring from the ID sensor to the IOB. Vsp=0 or Vsg=0 are two of the causes of SC 350. Also check SP 3001-1. If it is at maximum or minimum you can get an error on the ID sensor. Ideally it should be between 0 and 110.

As for 3, pixel count is a setting you can use when you have a defective ID or TD sensor until you can replace the defective sensor. Toner is added to the developer based on the number of black pixels in the prints. My experience is that the machine will tend to under tone in pixel mode.

You seem to spend (waste) an awful lot of time putting band-aids on these old beasts. At some point they need to be put out of their misery, but, if you're stuck with fixing them for now, I'd definitely be changing out the whole Dev unit and PCU for new (or at least known working ones), rather than rebuilding them, and see what the results are.

          Right.

Agree with above, you will need to replace the drum and developer, and go from there. Or Better still put the thing out of its misery

              Re: Ricoh Aficio 1035

Three steps to fix all three problems:

              1. Douse device with gasoline

              2. Strike match and apply to device

              3. Burn it until there's nothing left: there's likely to be a lot of toner scattering so don't think that it's the ashes you want the machine reduced to.

Seriously: at this point you're likely looking at needing the entire PCU replaced since the cleaning seals are probably long since gone. The front door switches are probably coated with toner, and the laser unit probably isn't pulling the juice it needs, plus if I recall, the HV board can also give you flaky errors like SC 350. I haven't seen one of those beasts in a looooong time, and I hope it stays that way too.
