MPC2551 not responding to Ping command

I visited a MPC2551 today on a chargeable call out as the customer couldn't print or scan to/from the machine. Upon checking the machine with my laptop and xover cable I cannot get a ping response from the machine. I tried entering a different address but it doesn't respond to any ping command and the web page doesn't open up. I didnt have any firmware on me, not that I think that will fix it, Has anyone seen this or have any ideas?

    Thanks all

Did you notice if the LED's were flashing the copier LAN port?
If you plug the copier back on the network & turn on DHCP does it pull an ip adress etc?

When I plugged in the network cable I got an amber light on which went off when I unplugged the cable. No flashing lights. They are only a small office and don't use dhcp.

I would try updating all the firmware, you could also try an engine clear in SP mode.
Also when you go back take an old router with you plug the copier into that with DHCP on see if it picks up an IP address etc

Ok thank you. Do you know the SP mode to do an engine clear?

Engine clear is just as fatal as "All Clear". It is the engine settings that yo do not want to clear unless you have either the birth certificate or non default printout. Also, engine clear will not clear network problems. If you want to try clearing memory, clear 5801-010 and 011.

Check that SP 5985-001 is set to 1.

Where did this idea come from, that an "All Clear" fixes anything? All it does is throw away thousands of settings that are very difficult to restore.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Dave, you quoted the wrong post. I was pointing out that Engine clear is as bad as All Clear.

I dont know why so many people are scared on the ALL CLEAR we've been using that on every rebirb we put out never once had an issue. More likely to have an issue not doing an all clear, resets all the sp codes back to default so any that engineers have changed sp settings for what ever reason back to what they should be on. I'd rather try an all clear before ordering a new controler board anyday etc
