Ricoh 161 spf firmware update procedure ?

I have done firmware updates using SD cards on many Ricoh's, just create a romdata folder and put new fw in folder then insert sd card.

I have the 161 updates for the sd card but when done like above, the Ricoh 161 does not go into " preparing firmware update" mode. It just goes to ready. I have tried both sd slots.

    What am I missing ?

    Thanks

You might need to reformat the SD card. Use the Panasonic SD Card Format software.

If the SD card is larger than 1GB you may need to get a smaller card or re partition your existing card to 1GB. Minitool partition wizard works nicely.

The " Service" slot is the 3rd slot on those machines, and it's under a small metal cover above the other 2 slots

There is a sd card slot under a metal cover held on with 1 screw just above the usb and nic cable connectors. SM pg. 5-127

Check the product code on the serial number plate. If it is either a B262 or B269, then it does not use SC card to update. It uses the older PCMCIA card. See Procedure for the B262 and B292 starting on page 5-130 in the service manual.

Yes, but you need to use the rfu version of the firmware.

Since the MP161 is old enough to have 3 SD slots, iit most likely does not support many if not all 2GB cards. Try using a 1GB card or better yet a 512MB card. If you don't or cannot get smaler SD cards, try using a software such as MiniTool Partition Wizard to create one on a larger card.
