    Ricoh MP C4000 duplex jam

Hi folks, having a weird issue with a MPC4000 at a customers.
Machine works fine single sided A4, A3 and duplex A3 BUT every time we try duplexing A4 machine just stops midway through first copy.
Image formed and fixed on first side but seems to stop as its heading for the fuser for the second time. No sign of paper jam/Z fold - machine just stops showing paper jam.

We've changed full duplex unit and exit section and tested paper location sensors using SP5803.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    If it's jam code 24 or 64 replace D0294580.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Static testing jam sensors will only detect hard failure of the sensor. It will not detect slow response of the sensor which if slow enough will cause a jam detection.

check fuser driven rollers spring... one of it is pushed in and does not have enough tension to guide the paper for second side.

From the sounds of it the paper is going fine on the first side and jaming on its way around, it would help if you had a jam code or would be more specific as to where the paper is when it stops, is it in the door, is it between the registration and fuser, is it just going into the duplex or leaving the duplex side etc. For the page to print the first side and start into the duplex depending how far into the duplex it gets it could be the entrance pawl which there was a TSB for i believe, could be the door switch in the rear top right corner triggering as paper passes from base to door, could be the crappy gears on front side of duplex the belts like to come off when the clip on the gear works it way off. If you changed the entire door with a functional one then i would check the machine side drive to the duplex or the push switches. An smc jam code would help maybe narrow that down.

    1. Disable\remove the electrical connector of the paper full sensor near the exit. This unused sensor gets dusty and flags a full tray in error.
    2. Check the bridge unit home switchs are not toggling on off.
    3. Check the PTR unit hinge is not broken.
    4. Check the vertical path paper guides are not missing\broken a plastic tab.
    5. You may like to replace the fuser exit sensor as a last resort. I've had these toggle on off very sluggish and throw a late error.

    Also bear in mind...
These machines are the same as the MPC2800/3300 in that there are numerous issues with the exit assy.
From warped frames to solenoid issues.
You can buy the entire exit assy as a complete unit these days.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm hopefully going to site on Thursday to get another look at this with the info you have suggested and get a jam code as well. Will let you know how I get on.
    Thanks

Re: Ricoh MP C4000 duplex jam

I'm having exact the same issue:
    - One side no problem.
    - Duplex jams always on FIRST SIDE (without folding) in the exit area of the main frame.
    - Jam indic = 24
    - sp5804-144 exit junction solenoide operation = 100% ok
    - also the junction gate guide pawl itself is pushed enough to the left, so there is no gap for the paper to catch behind (and jam)

When removing the front upper panel (and the fan) the junction solenoide is visible, and this happens when we push the start button:
    - solenoide is activated and pull the junction gate pawl away to it's proper position.
    - paper is feeded
    - and all of a sudden (and for a reason i don't understand) solenoide is de-activated, causing paper feeding to the exit (causing jam indication).

    That is the problem.
    Anyone?
    Greetings.
