    Ricoh MP C2550

Intermittently the ARDF does not sense the paper as it is inserted to begin making copies or scans.
Cleaned all sensor, no help. My next thought is to replace the flag and paper sensor that work together to sense the paper.
    Any thoughts?

Just replace the photo interrupt sensor that the flag actuates. Also check the cable from the feed table to the ADF PCB. They have been known to pull partially loose. Usually causes length detect problems but you never know.

You may want to check the Actuator (B7891254) that is attached to the bottom of the Right Feeder Hinge - it actuates a sensor inside the Feeder. If this is not working correctly it will not recognize paper is in the Feeder Hopper.

See if the pick up roller is in its upper position when that problem occurs.

Is this Df opened and closed a lot? I have seen the cable between the df and machine fail on smaller model machines, causing all kinds of weird intermittent problems.

If all else fails, do a point to point on that loom and make sure there are no breaks.

+1 on the flags that sit in the vicinity of the df hinges. If either gets stuck, the machine does not know that the df is down and disregards signals from it as if it is open.

Sounds like you're heading in the right direction.

Also check that the ADF lid is not buckled - have seen this a few times, causes the sensor to hang incorrectly.

Had one do that to me the other day, all I did to get it working was just unplug the photo interupter on the back right side by the the hinge, problem solved.

when you scan or copy by the ADF do this:
hold the cover where it will shutter that informs if closed.

It has happened to me that copying from the ADF, this seal opens leaving for a second and generates jam.

and you know what to do if this.
