I'm about to move into these machines from the MP201spf and would greatly appreciate everyone's opinion on these machines compared to the older version MP201? Thanks in advanced for your time!

Prepare for lots of premature PDCU replacements... And the ADF is kinda Meh. Otherwise similar in most other respects. Fusers are different too.
They changed the Doc Feeder to a Sep Pad Type...WHY?
Also get all of the 201 toner out of that place cause they'll try and put it in the 301 and break the toner handle off.

Way to make lemonade out of a lemon! You found something good about them. Fusers will not last nearly as long, PCU's will not last as long (until you adapt the old type 1515) Doc feed was mentioned, They took a fairly solid design that they had been making for years and trashed it.
so is the toner the same from 301 compared to a 171,201 series?

We had issues with fuser jams from day 1. Through trial and error we found that replacing the strippers (with springs and holders) from the mp201 series, solves this. We do it as standard as part of setup on all MP301s and have a very good success rate this way. Previous hotrollers won't fit this fuser as there are 2 slots on the gear side.
+1 on the pcu failures.
The friction pad design on the df is poor and they don't last like the previous series that still had a roller for separation.
The scanners are also not dust proof (like they look) and it is a pain to get to the ccd ass'y to clean. Lots of small bits in the assembly and getting to all the mirrors is time consuming.
So far it seems like the right doors are more durable than before, as they have redesigned the location of the mechanism and the holders - only time will tell.
Press the GREEN button!!
I don't like the 301 series - DF and overall design is totally flimsy and we have way more calls for this bugger compared to the previous models MP201/171...
Don't sell it if the customer make more than 2,5k prints/month
Don't sell it if the customer needs a reliable and solid scanner solution // this DF is ok for doing some scans and copies "now and then" but not for any kind of professional usage imho
With these things I'm getting an average of between 15-30k depending on the environment. Not had a fuser melt itself together for a while though.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.
