Scan to folder using Hostname failed, but ip works

    Hi Guys

I and trying to setup scan to folder. It works perfectly when using the PCs IP address. But the PCs are set to DHCP so i need to scan to their Hostnames.
This does not seem to work for some reason.

    Any ideas?

Is the machine on DHCP or static? If static, are the domain and DNS entries in? The PC's, especially Dells, sometimes have all the same hostname like Latitude630 or something like that. If they aren't all unique the machine will just try and send the scan to the first one it sees.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Assuming a small Pier-to-Pier network, eg single modem/router and NO domain server.
Assume the modem/router has be configured for "DHCP server" setting inside the modem/router configuration.

Make the copier DNS server IP the same as the copiers Gateway IP which equals the fixed Router IP.

Depending on the operating system , hostnames should match the letter case and no spaces.
    example : \\OfficePC\Scans

DNS IP is not required if you're using a laptop PC and cross over cable into the MFD.

Check NetBeui enabled on port 445?

Re: Scan to folder using Hostname failed, but ip works

You can browse to the router and reserve an IP address for the PC for the customer. This way you can scan to IP and not have to worry about DNS failures or timeouts.

    Good Luck

Sounds like a network problem to me.

If you are on a domain, the domain name must be correct and the first DNS server must be the domain DNS server, usually the domain controller.

If you are on a peer to peer the workgroup name must match. The router/PC providing DHCP must be the first DNS.
