i didnt mess with any extended features as i recall i think that APP2ME option was installed on this unit.
i popped the nvram off and connected power and powered up and got a sc 842 code from missing NVRAM.
But still it sits in please wait mode.
im thinking of just swapping out the swing out box with IOB,BCU,HDD and controller brd and just swapping NVRAM..
My concern is i dont want 2 boat anchors.
i can alway deal with troubleshooting when i free time.

ricohs can drive you to the edge at times,i guess i gotta part out my 2nd mpc3501 and see if its the controller or bicu brd.
When you reference "changing the controller",are you swapping the whole swing out box with or w/out HDD and fax option?
    thnx
    Top slot?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

i was able to load system and engine and it was slot 2,which was bottom slot..issue was when trying network and ADF
at the same time..i am leaning towards BICU ..

    per manual
insert the SD card into SD Card Slot 2. Make sure the label on the SD card faces the
    front side of the machine.

After you receive the error enter in service menu
Backup your adressbook if you need it and give it a memory clear
    Try to clear all with
    5801-001
    or
5801-003 this one initializes default system settings, SCS (System ControlService) settings, operation display coordinates, and ROM
    update information.

Changing BICU not help if the problem is the software

The question is how can he gets into service mode when it hangs at the 'please wait'? I would suggest unplug the adf and finisher option. Hold down the * button and # button at the same time then turn on the machine. Hopefully this will save you some part. If it does not work, I would try new controller, nvram, and perhaps bicu. What is the firmware part number for adf and network you upgraded?
