Re: Mpc4500 randomly not recognizing toner

if it prints fine, i think it's not a toner pump problem, try to replace toner bottle with another new one if it's not recognized, it should be the RFID board.

Is the toner genuine Ricoh or aftermarket? Aftermarket toner can be popular with older machines like this. If it is aftermarket toner, the toner bottles currently causing problems in the machine have bad RFID chips. Try a different distributor if aftermarket toner must be used in that machine, or just turn off the toner end indications and be done with it. Your choice.

If we turn off toner end indicators how does client know when to change?

My explanation is entirely based on defective RFID chips on aftermarket toner bottles. If that's not the case you didn't supply me with an appropriate amount of input.
Still, even with bad RFID chips on the toner bottles the machine will still stop printing when it is out of toner. Your client will replace the toner then. It is up to them to have an adequate supply of replacement toner bottles.
If that doesn't work, your client will need to seek a different toner supplier that has working RFID chips on the toner bottles.
Or they will need to get authentic Ricoh toner.
Those are the choices available to you. Unless you want to waste time and a lot of money and annoy the client doing needless repairs to that machine. I have no idea what to do next then, and I'll just shut up and go away if that's the case.

When the toner sensor on the back of the toner nozzle does not see toner coming out of the bottle.

Re: Mpc4500 randomly not recognizing toner

This is what I normally do:
    1. Set SP 3045 to 1 to turn off toner end detection. Toner ICON if turned on will show all toner at 100%. The toner sensor will detect when the bottle is empty.
    2. If machine then runs without the problem color fading, either the chip is bad or the RFID board is bad. When the customer replaces the toner bottle with a new, never been used in any machine previously, turn SP 3045 back on and run 100 copies. If the toner empty message comes back on, the RFID board is bad. Turn SP 3045 off and order an RFID board.
    3. If the color starts to fade, order a new toner pump assembly. New pumps from Ricoh include the tube that goes to the toner nozzle.

I think we're on the same field again? You may have missed my last reply here.
At least I hope that's the case. If not tell me and I'll shut up and go away.

I think we were both typing at about the same time.

    3101-01 (13,14,14,16)
Set the amount of toner remaining in the toner bottle(OEM) before the "near end" is detected.

Cut and paste directly from the MPc4500 service manual.....

    ---------8< insert --------------------------------------------------
Adjusts the threshold of toner near end for each color. The toner near end message appears on the LCD when the remaining toner amount reaches this threshold. When one of these SPs (SP3-101-009 to 012 or -032 to -035) reaches this threshold, toner near end is detected.

This depends on the RFID board and toner bottle chips being functional.
