Random J012 jams on two units. MP 8000 and MP 7001

Hey Troops....

This is a definite "Head-Scratcher". I have 2 machines (Sitting right next to each other), a 7001 and an 8000 that are both having RANDOM J012 jams. The 8000 started a week ago, and the 7001 started today. You can print 20 pages with no problem, then when you try to run another 20, it pops the B2 gate open with the J012 jam code. There's no consistency about it, and zero damage to the lead edge of the paper to point to any obstruction.

I've already removed and cleaned the Relay sensor and Registration sensor, registration sensor shows changing states correctly in SP mode, and the relay and registration motors actuate properly. I've replaced the relay clutch on the 8000 (No effect), and removed the entire bypass/paper registration section to clean and inspect it.

Both devices will feed with zero issues from the bypass tray, but from all of the cassettes, you get the random 012 jams...regardless which paper size or orientation you use.

I've ordered a new relay sensor...just on the off chance that it's being "flaky", but other than that the ONLY thing these two machines have in common is they're in the same building... most likely on the same circuit too, judging by the fluctuating voltage readings I was getting.


If anyone can think of something I missed, PLEASE let me know....before I pull out what's left of my hair!!

Pull out the developer unit set it on a piece of 11x117 paper and spin the knob,see if any developer leaks out the rear seal.if it is replace all six bushings on the devloper and effected feed units...

Have you checked your outlet? Are both machines on the same circuit? Maybe try an ESP filter.

Drop the B2 lever. Look at the black mylar. If it has white parts on it, the registration mylars are shot and need replacing. B140 2665 and 2675.

Rego units require rebuild.

Whats the volume on both machines?

If over 2 million, grab a new dev unit, toner hopper and rebuild the rego unit.

I hope for your sake the dev unit is not leaking cause if it is, you might as well add a couple of feed stations to the parts list as well

There was a bulletin, B064/B065 – 018, on jamming for the 1060. It applies to all later models using the same paper feed units.

I did.... and the VAC was fluctuating from 122.9 to 129.7 when the units were running, and 124.5-127.3 at idle. I believe the customer has these units on the same circuit, but I also believe there's another device or two on it as well in another part of the building (It's a print shop...)

One device has 2.7 million (Dev unit rebuild no more than 70-75K ago. The other unit has 500K.

check the registry motor and the registry feed belt on the rear of the machine, sometimes it happens that the belt is bent or a "tooth" is missing causing random paper jams.

OK...here's the update.

I brought a "Line Tester" in to check the power for the machines, and I found that under a 15 amp load I was getting 6-7% voltage drop.... and under 20 amp load the voltage was dropping 9-10%. Plus there was a floating ground/improper ground impedance error on the line tester, so I'm going to write this one up as an electrical issue. I informed the customer, who then told me that the wiring for the machines had been recently "added"... and the two 20 amp devices were sharing a breaker with a 3rd 15 amp machine.

What part of "Dedicated Outlet" don't they understand??
