    MP 2550 Mis-feeding out of tray 1...

Good condition MP 2550 in a clean office and well maintained 300K copies.
I have been called out on this machine several times over the last 2 months.
It mis-feeds from tray 1. All other trays work fine. (so that narrows it down)
I have replaced the Paper feed roll and the paper feed clutches with new OEM parts.
I did the clutches this morning...I get a call this afternoon same problem, same drawer.
When the problem occurs, no paper ever leaves the drawer. I ran 200+ copies this morning and didn't have an issue.
I realize that I have treated the most common problems, so what's next.

I have been the only tech to touch this machine for the last 5 years.

Anyone have an idea what may be going on here?

    Thanks
    Jeff in STL

Very common on this series, Jeff.
Kind of surprising you haven't run across it before.
Quite a few threads about it on here.
But here's the info you need:
    Non-Feed Jams.PDF
As for the mylar it suggests, just put a drop of glue or something on the feet of the switch

    Too funny!
You're right I have had to do this fix in the past...completely forgot about it though.

Thanks for making me feel my age...LOL

I'll run back out to my customers office tomorrow and check it out.
I just poked around in my Google Drive and found a copy of that fix bulletin I put in there a couple of years ago.

    Thanks again!

Definitely check what sandmanmac suggested and if not that, remove the drawer and look at the paper lift motor coupling gear for a crack.

The usually indication of this is that, as noted in the bulletin, is paper size is not properly auto detected and the customer, or a tech, have set it in User Tools. The sensor not only detects the width but also set the pressure applied by the lift motor springs. If you ever have a sensor arm break off, there is a setting is SP mode you can change while you order as new sensor.

Had this exact thing happen on a 2851, luckily we had a spare sensor in our bucket o sensors and things.

Well it absolutely was that sensor popped out of its mount causing the problem.
    Reinstalled and repaired!

Thanks to everyone for your continued assistance.

    Jeff
