    document feeder

the document feeders on the Ricoh MP4001(at least the ones I service) have a lot of misfeeds(can't remember codes). Are these feeders known for chronic misfeeding??? If so is there a certain cause???
    Thanks!!!

We have found that any of the mid to higher speed devices that use the dfs with the large middle roller and smaller side rollers on the same shaft, suffer from roller swelling if the customer scans a lot of documents that are treated with auto carbon - like waybills.

There must be a chemical reaction between the auto carbon and the rubber that causes them to swell. Some so much that the roller becomes lose on the shaft and can spin freely.

Only fix is to replace the whole shaft rollers and all.

There are 4 light sensors that look for paper in those feeders. I had an account that just used theirs for scanning and did it all day. The sensors look down at black felt patches in feeder. These felt patches collect paper and regular dust and throw off the sensors, intermittently at first. Hint, one patch is hidden under platen cover in black plate which has one screw in it. Another patch under feeder as well on left side with 2 screws. The other 2 you can see when opening upper cover.
