    Ricoh 820 Password Help

    Heya,

I posted a question in the printer section but have not gotten any responses. I'm hoping this printer might be similar enough to a Ricoh copier that the password reset procedures might be the same or very similar.

It's a SPC820DN printer I purchased at a university auction. I am unable to log into the web interface. I have tried the admin and supervisor accounts as well as a service mode clear and I still can't get any login to work and the IP restrictions they had set at the university are still in place which makes it difficult to use. There has to be some way to reset this thing to factory settings, even if I have to reflash the whole firmware or something..

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    -Justin

What do you mean by "service mode clear"?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Oh dear. That will have done nothing except badly confuse the machine. You'll have to get a tech in to replace the controller NVram, and possibly replace all the PCU's.

    Re: Ricoh 820 Password Help

There's many threads about this here already on many different models. Would be nice to have a sticky to force it to be readily seen and keep seeing 'help password reset' every couple of days.

Performing the SP5801-01 was indeed a bad move, you have succeeded in hosing much of the settings specific to your machine and replaced them with generic defaults. Looks for a sheet of paper that is hopefully stashed on the machine somewhere we often call the 'birth certificate'. It will have all the factory 'non-default' settings that need to be re-input, or at least as many as you can. No, you won't need to replace boards or the NVRAM, but it likely will never be what it was before the clear.

What you need to perform is SP5846-46 from 'Factory' service mode.

No, I won't tell you how to enter this mode; it is not supposed to be for general consumption and honestly I have forgotten how to enter it on a printer anyhow. I just remember it being a specific key combination while powering on.

    Re: Ricoh 820 Password Help

That's no good.. I read that that might not have been the best thing to do after I did it. The first thing that I landed on when I searched for it was to do 5801, after doing that and reading further I read that wasn't a good thing to do. It still prints ok after doing it, however the color registration was messed up and I had to fix that. Hopefully I can figure out what else I might have screwed up. The only thing I've noticed is that the image is skewed off center on the page, but its sharp again.

If you look under the jam clearance decal in the front cover you will hopefully find the birth certificate. Re-input all the values you see on there and it should come back to somewhere near good. Then we'll sort the password.

I got all the values from the birth certificate put back in. I can access service mode and special service mode.. I don't see a SP5846-46 in either. Is there yet another Factory service mode?

    Re: Ricoh 820 Password Help

There are three service modes. The 'normal' SP, 'special' SP and finally 'factory' SP. Accessing each one is a little different and Ricoh does not publish how to access the 'factory' SP mode.

It allows access to things like serial number changes and clearing authentication among other things. For those reasons it is only supposed to be use by Ricoh's regional technical support specialists. It has been shared here for the MFPs, not sure about the printers. SP5846-46 only exists in factory SP and is not documented.
