    mp4000 -1 -2 dev.units pcu's lifetime

    Hello,
    Due to quality problems, I:
    - change developer (and clean the sleeve roller) somewhere between 100K and 150K.
    - replace also the whole box at about 600K.
    - replace drum parts rarely at 300K, but mostly at 100K.
Does this "parts lifetime" looks familiar to you or is it rather early?
How often do you refurbish a pcu of developer box?
    Greetings.
    Mark

The MP3500/4500/4000/5000 etc all are as bad as each other. Toner belching, mag roller contaminating pigs. Unfortunately, you're bang on. Dev rarely lasts above 100k. Personally I replace the lot if something fails, it's pointless hitting the machine piecemeal with parts. With regard to the dev unit itself, I've only ever had to replace it if the bearing siezes and it gives you SC324. Cleaning the mag roller is sufficient. The only time I've ever replaced the drum side of a PCU is when the recycling gears stripped.

    Hit it.

Unfortunately there is no part number for the sleeve roller.
So, one needs to order the whole unit.
I carefully rub the sleeve roller with fine sand paper, meaning that the performance grows less with every scrub...
That's why I replace the whole at about 600K...

Don't use sandpaper, just use green scouring pad. Doesn't harm the mag roller at all.

I've been letting them run to 160k and then replacing the developer, drum and blade, and cleaning the mag roller with a Scotch-brite. I have an account with a lot of SP8300's, some of which are just printing constantly, and the drums will sometimes last over 200k. Pretty weird. While these boxes still run dirty, I recently haven't been getting issues with developer not making its life.

    Use SP 8200 maintenance kits.

I've used a brass brush to clean them like in bulletin 26 for the MP6001 series. Seems to work pretty good.

    Isn't that rather drastic .
You will end up replacing the sleeve roller early, isn't it?

    Hi there!
Itīs really strange, the printer-version of the ALEX-series runs much better then the copier-version. For both itīs the best (as mentioned before ) to use the green side of a scotchbride (or other brand). Our experience is, after the 3. changing of the developer itīs the best to change the devbox. The mag-roller is not longer availible as a spare-part. Reducing the doctor-gap to 0,30 mm (~ 3 pieces of good copy-paper) helps also to enlarge the target.
    Greetings...
