SC544 error message displayed on MPC4502, used fuse M0264371 and SP 5810-002 to reset the error but "failed" appears immediately after I press Execute and nothing happens. Thermostats and fusing lamps are good.

You have to first determine and repair the initial cause of the error code, then you can reset it.
Reset fuser sc code and activate fuser high temp start. If the high temp is failing you could have a bad fuse installed. The only time I've ever had it fail was when I forgot to install the fuse.
Is this not caused by a kink in the sleeve?
This is what the good book says:
Heating roller overheat: Center (hardware error)
During stand-by mode or a print job, the detected heating roller
temperature reaches 250°C.
Defective PSU.
Defective BCU.
Defective AC control board
Defective IOB
Defective IPU
Defective fusing control system
Related SC code: SC 543
544
1. Replace the PSU.
2. Replace the BCU.
3. Replace the AC controller board.
4. Replace the IOB.
5. Replace the IPU.
6. Replace the fusing unit and reset the counter of the fusing unit
using SP3-902-014.
Important:
• The fusing unit cannot be used because an abnormal high
temperature was detected. After this SC occurs, the counter reset
of the fusing unit should be done manually using SP3-902-014
because the counter reset is not done automatically.
• After replacing the fusing unit, set SP5-810-2 to reset this SC.
Press the GREEN button!!
It is possible to plug the fuse into the thermistor connector and the thermistor into the fuse connector. that will give you the results you describe, 5810-2 will fail. the two connectors are identical!!!!!!!!
Mystic Crystal Revelations
To reset sc 544 need a pico fuse that comes in a rebuild kit for sp5- 810-2 to work otherwise show fail
