Why would you buy broken toner pumps?
To buy brand new they are dirt cheap!

I just tried to replace one with rubber piece, it was very hard to do due to lock tab was very easy to break, and it did not work after all the hard work.
Just my experience, I don't know everybody else successful with it.
Better off with new unit from ebay.

    thats funny..
no i did not but bad pumps, just saved the old ones when i replaced them
plus some from parting out "parts machines".
and they are not cheap here in usa, over 100 bucks...
so i ended up pulling one apart, small c clip n the clutch out and then the secret to
pulling the plastic up w/out snapping the housing>>fishing hooks.
i went thru my tackle box and pulled out 3 gamagatsu circle hooks and they got under and
allowed me to pull unit apart..what i see as the problem is not that the rubber plug/pump?
wears out but the inside housing that has a metal worm type gear inside that is driven via the clutch..
so i am going to use a hot glue gun to rehouse the shaft to the rubber and will let you know after i
swap one out..i did order 10 rubber plugs and will try them too.

The shaft has to turn in the rubber. That is the actual pump action.

yeah i kinda notice that the rubber piece does not spin after reassembly w/out doing any mods
or glue..'so the toner passes thru the plug?
    its an odd design..

Actually it is a very common design. Not only pumps the toner but insures particles passed though are not too large. The Aficio 551/700/1055 in the waste toner unit to separate recyclable toner from the waste.

Re: Toner supply pump question for the McGYVERS out there

Toner attraction pump is not really a good description.

It's a mechanical driven auger shaft (or screw if you like) that moves toner along a short chamber at a fixed rate to a exit point.
The attraction part is no doubt the small amount of directional air pressure the movement generates that helps the toner flow out from the supply tube.

But it's not really what I would call a pump in the traditional sense though.
As it has no oscillating diaphragm like in air pump or propeller wheel like in a water pump.

Main issues that come to mind.

    • Magnetic clutch failure.
    • Too much rotational torque.
    • Insufficient air pressure.

i never saw any 551 sand started selling the 1060s after i switched over from
doing sharps and minolta for 15 years or more...so that metal "auger" pulls the fine toner from the center of the rubber plug?
if so can i mechanically turn the shaft with a hose with toner attached and test that it works?
i just pulled a 2nd apart and the was a few big chunks of cyan toner,so i cant say a clogged pump
    cleaned out will work well.

Its not the rubber that is the problem, it is the clutch that turns the shaft. You will notice that the clutch is larger on newer pumps. I have taken them apart and cleaned them but it was a waste of time. They are inexpensive, just replace.
