    vertical fading

My printer, LANIER LP116cn, is leaving a vertical fade on every page I print. What is causing this and how to I correct it?

    what have you done?
    check toner
    clean laser glass
    check the fuser

are you a tech or end user?

I am simply a user. I am 3 months in on my first office job, at the age of 55. I have absolutely no IT experience at all. I was a Pastry Chef, so my expertise lies more in cheesecake, Petit Fours or macarons.

I have checked the toner, it is good.
How do I check the fuser?

You don't give to many details. I assume this is a black print issue. In addition to what was already mentioned you could be dealing with a faulty drum unit or transfer unit among other things. If you have ruled out toner you're going to need a tech. The bottom line, however, is you're dealing with a printer that is about 13 years old. It's not worth putting any money into this unit. I recommend replacing the printer.

By vertical do you mean parallel to the direction of paper travel or perpendicular as each has different causes.

Parallel. Each time I print I get a "strip" about 3/4 of an inch wide that prints much lighter than the rest of my document or picture.
It starts about 5 3/8" in from the left edge of the paper and runs from the top of my document to the bottom.
