MP C4501 Skew when copying but fine when printing

    Hello

I have an MP C4501 which is skewing copies from the scanner glass but when printing it is fine.

I've checked the manual and cannot find anything overly helpful and wondered if anyone had seen this before.

The skew is the same from ADF and scanner glass, but no skew from printing either counters or from a PC, therefore I assume it is an optics issue...

    Thanks

Users have been leaning on the control panel and have warped the scanner unit.

Level the scanner section to the rest of the machine.

agree with slim, i have faced this issue on an MPC3003, it turned out the scanner unit is slightly deformed. This usually happens when the users do a copy and lean on the MFP.

    +1

To check if the scanner frame is skew, lift the df, and lightly tap on the copy glass. It should product a dull sound. If you can hear a pinging sound (like the glass is loose) then the scanner frame is skew.

Also check that all the scanner mirrors are seated properly, as a skew scanner mirror can also cause this.

I was afraid the scanner may be skewed...

No ping from the glass, all seems to be seated properly.. and mirrors all seem to be in place...

Is there any adjustment to fix this sort of issue other than try to brute force the scanner back into shape?

    Thanks

You can check if the scanner assembly is true to the frame. There are 4 holes in the scanner frame that can be used. The scanner rails should line up with these (one hole on each end of the scanner rails) so that when you put pins (or the right size screwdrivers) through the frame holes, they should just slide in - one uses the same procedure when replacing the scanner cables.

    Hope this makes sense.

Not sure I understand which holes...

Can you direct me in the manual or with a picture.. ? Thanks

I would have thought there would be a way to rotate the scanned image slightly in service or in settings... but seem unable to find anything to do that...

    Thanks
