MP 201 firmware udpate sc-670

I'm sorry if this is a newbie question...I have read several threads on this issue but i would just like to get some clarity on doing a firmware update on the mp-201.

I recently got the new firmware for the 201 and proceeded to upload it on several machines. The first one went just fine, the second one however, i got a sc-670 code. Which i believe the machine is now shot unless i replace the controller board. From what i have read, I'm not supposed to upload the new firmware on older versions??

My question is what do i need to check on the 201 before i do the update to be sure i can do it on that machine? Why did it work ok on one and not the other? Did it have to do with age or versions already installed on it?

You have to be very careful to use the correct firmware for the correct version of CPU
