Did I screw my developer change up?

Today I did my first developer change on a MP2852 and I have a feeling something went wrong. After replacing it I went into the initialization and hit execute it didn't do anything and I seemed to have locked the screen some how. I couldn't exit or select anything on the screen so I shut off the copier and started it up again. I went back in and the 3XXX was grayed out so I couldn't do the initialization again. Any ideas of what I could have done? The copies were fine but I am afraid after a few thousand copies something might show up. Since I mostly do Canon and some Kyocera I haven't had to deal with developer for ages. It seems like dial up to me now.

Sounds like the machine / software crashed on you.

A new pack of dev has the correct amount of toner in it.

It should of churned the dev for a minute or two until the TD sensor reached the optimal reference voltage value.

Once the machine adds toner or you do some printing it's pointless initializing dev as the reference reading would no longer be accurate and it may end up over or under toning as a result.

But on this particular model range it's not the end of the world.
If the print quality looks fine I'd say leave it alone.

SP 3xxx (Process) is 'grayed out" because it doesn't exist on these.
Dev initialization is, and always has been, SP2801 anyway, so I'm not sure what you were trying to set

I am sure dev init is 2801

You most likely tried to run developer initialization before the 2852 had finished the power on sequence.

Yes use SP2801.

Maybe a print job was sent to the machine?

Always unplug network cable when working on any copier really.

Can someone tell me the wisdom of Ricoh not putting how to get into SP mode in the manual? It says ask your supervisor, which I think is the dumbest thing I ever heard in this business.

If you had done a more recent Ricoh training coarse then you would know.

I think that's why they do it, it supplements official training.

Because the code for SP mode is SOOPER SEEKRIT information of course! I mean sure you can find it with less than 15 mins of internet searching, but bless their hearts they really try to hide it.

With the 52s especially I've found that if you don't close the frond door once you are in SP mode and wait for the machine to warm up all the way and beep for readiness it will lock up like you described when you try to initialize the developer. If it happens just turn the machine off, open the front door again, and try again.

Yeah general good practice is too unplug the network and fax cable, power up and wait a couple of minutes until it shows ready and any print engine movement has stopped.

I also still remove the toner and toner hopper until the dev initialization procedure is complete (like I said you don't want it adding any additional toner).
