PDF printing on a Ricoh MPC2500

    Greetings fellowmen,

One of my clients has a MPC 3000AD with bookletfinisher and PS3 module.
After unbelievable problems with adobe craetive suite and printing errors the client was ok with the fact that he had to send his booklets (pdf) to the document server, from where he had to push magazine to fold and finish his booklets.

Now the problem has gone way over my head. In black and white everything works fine. but when the client sends his pdf in color and tries to print it from the document server the machine says that mixed ducuments can not be printed?????? WTF?

    Anyone?

I seem to recall a problem with color and magazine mode.
All I can find is this but will carry on looking.

mixed colour mode from doc server

The only way I've found to get round it is to set black text in a document to 5,0,0 in the RGB colour settings so it looks black but is actually colour. As soon as any black is on the page, the machine thinks it is mixed colour mode and refuses to do it!

Just a crazy idea... When sending the job to the Document Server, is there a check in the box to allow Adobe to 'choose the paper source by PDF page size'? If so, take the check out of that box. I've seen that cause all kind of crazy problems with files.

I have a sorta related side question:
How does this color, magazine fold function work with PCL/RPCS in general? Not sure what program(s) they'll be using, but they want
to do a lot of this for brochures, etc.

(I got a MPC3000 with booklet finisher going out in the field
soon, but won't have PS3 installed. I have been lucky enough not to have to deal with these finishers with color so far.)

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the hijack!

    Regards

This was my initial thought too. I've had that little check box both fix and cause problems.

Have you tried using the RPCS driver to print the booklets? I had a similar issue and installing the RPCS driver allowed the client to print the pdf into an 11x17 booklet, folded and stapled in the center. Was unable to accomplish the feat using the PCL 6 driver, even while sending it (in color) to the doc server (mixed color mode).

I ran into this issue a year or so ago; it's a machine limitation.

The underlying reason is that the machine would be forced to print black and white AND color on the same page, which it simply cannot do.

The only real solution (as mentioned above) is to print the entire job in color. That kinda sucks because it means that color clicks will be wasted on making B&W output.

I had one customer who was printing 20+ page booklets, where only the cover was color. It meant that he had to burn 20 or so color clicks on each booklet.

Re: PDF printing on a Ricoh MPC2500

I realise this may be ancient history to some but can anyone help me get my head around it.

So the printer is CMYK, it has 4 toner cartridges, but it will only print C, M and Y in booklet mode? K is black, so why can't that be used?

Isn't this just a case of finding the right way to export a PDF so that all black is printed as K. What's mixed about that?

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious.
