Sounds like it might been installed at a military base and had a CAC card device connected or in some other environment where an external device, such as a hecon counter, was required to use. Check SP settings SP 5401 Access Control and return all to Default. Check SP 5113-001 and -002. They should be set to 0.

SP5846-046 and once completed reboot the machine.
Upon reboot use the default blank password setting.
Do this for Supervisor and Administrator 1.
This has to be done via Factory mode only.

    Re: External Authentication Error

    Hi everyone.

Sharpmind: I canīt turn off the user authenticacion, as soon as i press the "System Settings" button, the machine displays a window with only "Please Wait" and i canīt enter the options.

Slimslob: In SP-5401, the only option that was changed was SP-5401-001 to 3. I adjusted to the default value (0) and nothing happened.

Oze: I went to factory mode and executed SP-5846-046, reboot and still the same.

I remove the fax option, check the conectivity, change hard drive and still the same, now the machine shows always the window with "Please wait"

If i take the NVRAM from another MP-4002 and replace them with on this machine, do you think it can work??

    Thanks!!!

It will work but you need to see what the error is before you can proceed.

If you wait long enough the machine should pop up with an error message that you could use to diagnose the issue. It could take up to 15 minutes before the error pops up so be patient.

Run a non-default data smc and see if you have an unusual setting enabled.

Did you check SP 5113? 001 is for physical devices. 002 is for JAVA applications. If SP 5113-001 is or was set 5, MF Key Card, check SP 5114 and return it to 0.
