    Information on scan to folder.

    Hi All,
Please Could someone give me an information about the scan to folder,
On the Path where the IP address or hostname and destination file need to be input. why on different Ricoh it takes the \\ IP address\folder only or \\hostname\folder only.
I have this on a Ricoh Mp6002. When I input \\ip address \folder it do not recognise and it indicates Scan Destination has failed.
When I input\\hostname \folder it ok. Please can someone tell why this occurs.
How to used both IP address or hostname \folder.
    Thanks,

You started a thread that's less than 24 hours old discussing this issue!!
Scan to smb- Connection with the destination has failed.
Why have you started another one??

Due to Microsoft security updates over the last year and a half, most Windows computers will not accept direct connection by IP address as that is what most malware uses to launch attacks. SMB connection must be accomplished by NETbios name resolution.

    1. Not true, DNS resolves from IP or Hostname fine for all my Canon Devices
    2. IP Or Hostname does not matter
    3. People can't setup scan to folder properly
    4. People who don't understand Samba (SMB) and how updates affect device communication shouldn't be setting it up
    5. Firmware on machine must be up to date and support SMB 2.0/3.0 (SMB 2.0 at the minimum)

When all else fails Scan to FTP is your friend

But this is a Ricoh thread. Following a security update during the summer of 2016, every Ricoh at a school district that were setup to scan using the IP address of the district server suddenly could not connect to send. After checking the settings on a couple of machines in the same building, one was using name the other was using IP address, I noted that the one using IP address had a spelling error on the domain name an an incorrect first DNS. I corrected both and rebooted. It still would not connect until I changed to using the server name.
