MP C5501 tearing ITB belt...

MP C5501 tearing ITB belt along it's back edge.
I see a strip on the edge of the belt. In some places it's worn through the outer layer and started to curl.
This leads to a tear to start along that rear edge that eventually gets longer with a flap occurring.

I'm not seeing copy quality issues due to this problem but I'm going to replace the ITB as a unit instead of just the belt.

Do you think this will end the tearing problem?
This is the second time this has happened in 2 years (150k copies between issues).
Is this a known issue with these?

There may be something on the PTR assembly (D089 4551) contacting the belt. Check the two plastic PTR guides on the inside frame of the machine, D029 6318 and 6319. If these are broken, it could be holding the PTR assembly at a funny angle, catching the belt.

If you DO decide to change the whole assy use part no:403117.
It's the printer kit and with a simple machine side mod you can save yourself some cash.

We had something similar happen on an MPC2003.

It ate 2 ITB belts before we discovered that one of the silver tension rollers on the transfer side of belt, had seized in its bushings. You could not even turn in by hand.

Sorted the bushings out and all was well after that.

I would suggest thoroughly checking the whole ITB frame for anything that is out of the ordinary.

Always be very carrefull moving pcdu's in or out the machine, before you know it, you have ripped the belt!

Ordered a full ITB assy. without cleaning unit. P/R pn: E6316

I'll look things over closer before installing the unit.
I thought the first time it happened 100k ago it was a fluke...guess not.

I'll update thread with results.

keep in mind that the ITB unit is fixed with a (long) skrew, i once mist that one, that might have been the reason for ripping the itb belt...
