MPC4504 - Not recovering from SLEEP mode

    Hi Fellow Tech's,

I have a strange fault on a Ricoh Mpc4504SP - When a print job is sent to the device when in sleep mode the machine does not recover (locks up). Screen remains black with blue light on but no print is ejected, touching the screen also does not work. Even the main power switch on does not respond so the only way to reset the device is to physically unplug it. Other functions work fine i.e COPY, SCAN. The client has 2 devices, the other machine works fine.

I have updated all firmware levels on the device and Cheetah Op Panel - Still happens. A Controller has been ordered.

Has anyone seen this and got a fix? Or does anyone know if you can switch sleep mode OFF!!?

    Cheers

Try a local test with your notebook and cross over cable.

The machine stays in sleep mode when it receives a print.
To wake it up, lift the ADF or put an original in the ADF input table.

    Hi

Have had this same problem, but on mpc 4503 basicly the same machine. 2 times ended up changing the controller and one time the power supply...
Hope the controller works for you.

Actually, you mean when sending a print job, it doesn't print ...
i didn't understand it that way.
    Might be my accent...

Re: MPC4504 - Not recovering from SLEEP mode

I had this exact same issue on a few MPC305's once they went into sleep mode the control panel power button or sending a print job would not wake them up, pull the power & back in fine again.

This issue was a little intermittent however I used SP5-191 this basically stops the controller from going to sleep, the panel & rest of the machine fall silent so it appears the machine is at sleep as normal.

Used this setting a few times works every time not sure if this SP is the same on the MPCxx04 series worth a try.

Re: MPC4504 - Not recovering from SLEEP mode

These are some of the solutions for other Ricoh MFP's and should work for the "04" series:
    1. Set SP 5191 to "0" to Disable Sleep Mode.
    2. If FAX is installed, in FAX Mode set Bits 1, 4 and 5 in SP 1101-022 to "1".
    3. If Extended Features are not being used JAVA can be disabled with SP 5730-001 ("0" to Disable).
Hope this helps and saves you the cost of a Controller PCB.

    ** UPDATE**

Thanks for the input guys, the controller was fitted and cured the Sleep/print issue and sent back on warranty.

However, the device has a further fault where the Document feeder will intermittently throw a double sided original straight out without inverting the 2nd side showing a paper jam at P. ADF firmware has been updated, any one had this before? (The Feeder model is a DF3090).

    Cheers

    Bloody DF3090......
There are two optical sensors that collect dust faster than my ex collects child support.
It will tell you that you have a jam in the duplex or another symptom is a phantom jam when you lift the adf lid.
Strip out the black feed plate and clean the optical sensors.
