PCU damaged before it endr of Life.

    Hi All,

'Please can someone tell me how a Ricoh PCU type 1515 damaged before it end of life.
I have a customer that have this issues. Before he replaced the Pcu, on the display it indicates photoconductor need replacement. He replaces it with a new one, he removed the seal band and check the copy was good. Two weeks later a sound occurred and at the rear of the pcu there are some black powder fallen from the pcu. When I check I see that the development gear and idler gear was damaged.
My question is how this occurred.

    Thank you.

maybe drum unit sat on its side for a long time and developer bunched up in the rear and bound up the gears

That's the most likely scenario. In the instructions they usually tell you to hold the unit horizontal and shake it end to end to evenly distribute the developer.

Have you ever noticed that Konica Minolta and Toshiba imaging units and toners are shipped in parallelagram shaped boxes (ends of the box angled)? That's to discourage you from storing it on end. It doesn't stop certain people from doing so, but it's more difficult. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
