I know that models with an optional internal finishers, the copier will still function with the finisher option completely removed. Have had to do so a few times when waiting for parts for the finisher. The service manual replacement and adjustment section does provide how to remove the internal finisher for repair. I would start there then compare the C400SR with finisher removed to the C400 to determine what is next. You might just need a couple of covers around the paper exit area.

    Slim's right.
I've done this once in the past -those units are really a pain to remove, but yes, it's just a matter of installing on the Exit tray cover, (and possibly a couple of other smaller ones), but also remving the 3 or 4 metal supports that sit under the finisher to support the extra weight of the unit, and unless removed, they'll prevent the installation of the regular exit tray cover.
