Save to HDD, RAM is only for processing data

Saving documents in the machine? Do you mean the Document Server? That lives on the HDD, not the RAM.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Sounds like you have nearly filled the portion of the HDD dedicated to the document server. Time to review what is there and delete what is no longer needed. The document server is not intended as permanent storage. One minor error on the HDD that causes you to have to reformat and you lose the entire content of the document server.

The "memory" display in the document server menu and the scanner menu when save to HDD is selected refers to hard drive space.

Theres no benefit in upgrading the RAM on a copier its wont speed up the printing process.

You can turn on data erase in user tools this will clean up unused files on the HDD.
