    MP C4500 j054 on 11x17

So here’s what’s happening. MP C4500 with two drawer paper bank. I’m getting fairly consistent j054 jams out of tray 4 only when loaded with 11x17. 8.5x11 in either orientation works perfectly. There is no legal size onsite.

The paper will get to the fuser with some image on it properly registered. What I’ve done so far is swap drawer one and two feed units as well as drawer 3 and 4 feed units. I’ve swapped paper cassette 3 and 4. I’ve updated firmware and replaced the paper bank control board.

Every so often, a few sheets will make it through, but mostly it jams. All other drawers are working perfectly.

My next step is to replace the IO board.

Any suggestions? This one is really stumping me.

Trail edge does not clear bank vertical transport sensor 2 within the allotted time. Check paper size code in SP 7504. It should be 160. Also check jam count for 11X17 SP 7506-160. If the size code is not 160 and the count in Sp 7506-160 is too small, you have a problem with the size switch for tray 4.

I will check that out! Thanks, Slim!

Okay, I’m back at this shit box. Slimslob, I looked at SP 7504 but that’s the paper jam locations. Is there a different SP location to verify paper size code? IMG_4295.JPG

Also, I just replaced the IO board. No change.

My mistake, SP 7504 is the total since reset for each jam code. You have to look at the SP 7507-XXX on the screen and not on the SP 5900-004 print out. On the printout it just gives the jam number, date/time and counter. On the screen it also shows the paper size. Search the Service Manual for paper size code. Should be in the jam detection section.

A0h is hexadecimal. Convert to decimal.

Arrgh! Okay, it translates to 160 which is the DLT SEF, which is the 11x17. So it knows it’s jamming 11x17. I swapped the paper size sensors from drawers 3 and 4, as well as the feed clutches. No change in behavior.

Also, I put in an IO Board, no change. Put the original board back in.

Currently have 8.5x11 in tray 4 which feeds flawlessly.

I’m at a standstill on this one.
