MP2554sp - Loud scanner noise when copying from scanner glass

    Good day all.

One of my field techs reports that when the customers copy off the copy glass on the MP2554 it makes a loud noise when the scanner returns to home.

The noise is not present when using the ADF.

He cleaned, checked and lubricated the rails and bushes, with no improvement.

Has anyone come across this on this series?

The problem is still poor lubrication. The assembly rides not on actual "rails" but on flat surfaces at the both the front and rear ends of the scanner. These are almost beyond easy view, under the upper scanner table. you will need to apply a few drops of oil using an extension tube to reach the surfaces on which the scanner rides. This is a common issue which we see occasionally.

There is also an upper and lower rail. 1 for 1st scanner and another for 2nd scanner. Make sure you lube them both.

Those railings don't normally require lubrication. I would want to know more info before passing judgement. Firstly, what kind of noise, screeching, squeaking, or slamming, as in the scanner assembly slamming into the frame without stopping ? Secondly, has anyone moved the scanner assembly by pulling on the mirror assembly instead of via the belt, like you are supposed to do on those small mp's ?

it is a rumbling kind of noise and is not uncommon on the 03's and later. clean the rails to get the black goey old lube off then replace w a krytox lube i use on fuser bearings

This model does. They didn't oil the upper scanner rails enough at the factory. I've had to do this to several machines that have a lot of use. I found some kind of bulletin at some point. But can't find it again.
