    SP5200s- Light on sides

I have an SP 5200s that the customer reported light copies on yesterday.
    I've attached a sample:

As you can see, the machine only has 32,000 on the meter.
I swapped in a new AIO cartridge and the problem was resolved.
When I got back to my shop, I tried their cartridge in my own machine and it worked perfectly, so I expected that I may hear from them again, and I did today.
    Same problem.....
I wasn't able to go to my shop to grab another cartridge or any parts beforehand, and just went by to see if I could see anything unusual. I didn't.
I'm going to go back tomorrow with a transfer roller, because that's all that I can really think of that would cause something like this outside of circuitry.
I don't understand why swapping the cartridge helped yesterday, but to me that rules out things like the laser being dirty.
I didn't find any bulletins relating to light copies.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this and might have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Looks to me like the ends of the laser shield glass is fogged with either toner or dust.

I have had more of this in HP Printers, as Slimslob said laser shield glass or sometimes taking out the laser and giving it a good clean resolved this.

    Thanks for the input fellas!
Turns out it was just another defective AIO cartridge.
I swapped in another one, and it started printing perfectly again.
When I tested it back at my shop this time, it showed the same print defect, so then I put back in the first one that had failed, but seemed to print ok in my machine, and while it's much better than it was at my customers office (for some reason ) , it's still actually fairly light in comparison to what it should be.
Coincidentally, they had the same lot #'s from the manufacturer too.

Just a comedy of errors by yours truly.

    Enjoy your weekends!
