    MP 3351 print isue

Working with a MP 3351 that occasionally prints what I call "gibberish". Prints letters and characters across top of page and nothing else. Most times it prints the documents with no issues. I have updated printer and pcl firmware, with no success. This has just recently started and is rather annoying for all involved. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Update all firmware and use latest PCL6 driver, if it only happens on pdf files change/update pdf reader.

Is this is happening in a clients office ? Do you witness it ? It may be someone else has an incorrect print driver pointed at your MP 3351's IP address.
Change the IP, and use a pcl 5 driver ( pcl 5 is a more basic driver)

    More details would be helpful

Sounds very much like a drive issue. Exactly what will happen if a job is sent to a laser using a dot matrix driver or visa versa. Will also happen from a momentary drop of network connection during job header information transmission.

agree on the driver issue. I have seen the same thing with someone using a postscript driver on a machine without postscript.

Do any of the pages of gibberish contain the string ' get / http / 1.0 ' or similar?
If so, check that your customer's IT support are not conducting any penetration testing.

If not, the usual suspects are endpoints with a print queue configured with a queue using a print interpretor (DRIVER) that isnot supported by the device. In a server centric environment I would configure an ACL on the device only allowing the print server's IP access.

    Re: MP 3351 print isue

I've been offline for a while so take what follows with a grain of salt.
But when I saw this back in the day it was mainly caused by bad print jobs, typically because an Adobe Acrobat (pdf) file was malformed, or a website was defective.
In those cases, if the source was first taken as a screenshot, the paper print would be fine.
Sometimes you can try that out by printing the problem media to a file first, and then observing it before you print to paper.
Like others have said before this, it could be a bad printer driver too.
Sorry if this was a waste of time.

Printing from which PC, OS inf.
Long time back I remembered there was Virus During win XP or win ME time, which used to print garbage on top of the page ( few lines only)
That was very old & I do not think it could be but just check, may be helpful.
