    Not a crazy idea.

We are looking into introducing excessive scan usage charges for new contracts.

Came about due to some of our customers being real heavy digital archivers into DM systems.
Hence we are seeing far more DF related service calls and parts being fitted.
(Especially painful when the monthly print click volumes are fairly low).

Must cover costs and turn a profit right.

We had an oilfield services company a few years ago who decided to scan all their old well logs into their new server for archival. They had, if I remember correctly, about 4 or 5 conexs full of banker boxes of paper records. It took them about six months to get it all scanned. They agreed to pay for new ADF feed rubber and the labor to install them needed during that period.

It's a shame that Canofile doesn't exist anymore, it was designed for that exact purpose.
Unfortunately, it used magneto-optical disks for archival storage, and bulk CDs were about a thousand percent less expensive.

I agree with charging for scans also. I have 3 ricoh pro8100, where they way more than they prinr. They have alone on one scanner of a million scans in a little over 2 years. All the calls we get called for are scanner related. I want to charge, but unfortunately there is no info on how much you can scan. It really puts tech in a real bad situation.
