    MP C4501 Paper sensor

    Hello

I have an issue with a machine constantly reporting a jam at position Z. Position Z is behind the secondary transfer unit in the duplex door.

There is no paper jam and I have tried replacing the sensor which sits underneath the secondary transfer unit. This seemed to cure the issue, I then rebuilt the side door, and the jam was back. I then tried another sensor in case the one I used was problematic.. and now I cannot clear the jam at all.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks

Having the number of the jam will help a lot.

Any trained Ricoh tech would know that the jam letter is a guide for the operator as to where to find the paper jam. It says nothing about what sensor it occurred at or whether it is a lead edge or trail edge jam among others.

Try replacing the wiring loom between duplex unit and main m/c.

Wires break due to opening and closing of r/h door.

Go into SP mode inputs and see what sensor is showing as being on

    Re: MP C4501 Paper sensor

I'll check the jam code and check service mode sensor inputs...

The jam is permanent, as in it is occurring straight from power on, hence my conclusion it was a sensor and the sensor at that position is the one under the secondary transfer unit.

It could well be the wiring loom as suggested so I will also check this.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Re: MP C4501 Paper sensor

Possible Area Z jam codes not caused by sensor in duplex unit:
J001 jam found at power on (jam was nor cleared on closing jam door, sensor covered or bad at power up or door closed, door switch bad following a jams (machine thinks door has not been opened.)
J009 paper has reached lower duplex sensor (exit sensor) but has not reached the registration sensor. Normally a mechanical jam or foreign material jam at the duplex roller.
There are also 6 jam codes within the duplex unit. 4 are detected by the entrance sensor, upper sensor. Lead edge and trail edge entering the duplex unit and lead and trail edge exiting the inverter. The other 2 are detected at the duplex exit sensor. Lead edge and exit edge.

Simple thing to check that has caused really strange behavior including phantom jams and SC codes has been the main ground wire connecting the right hand door to the frame of the machine. Have had both outright breakage and internal breakage. May well not be your problem, but easy to check and verify to rule it out.

check the duplex guide plate (open - close), at the point where it is hinged.
Is one of the 2 hinges broken?

    Re: MP C4501 Paper sensor

    Jam code is J001

Will get back out to the machine and check the suggestions on here...

    Thanks
