Never had to calibrate a poly mirror motor in the past, and the goose guide does list the IPU as a possible fault for this sc code.
NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING
Polygon mirror motor error 3 - check harness and connections Loose ground spring on rear of D062 2261 PCU: Lower Ass'y, re form spring or replace.
The door switches can also cause this code.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.
[Symptom]
SC204 (Polygon mirror motor error 3: XSCRDY signal error) is displayed.
It sometimes occurs when the power is turned ON or when the Start key is pressed.
[Cause]
Wrong SC code is displayed due to the noise generated by faulty contact of the PCU ground spring.
- The side of the machine, in contact with the ground spring, is dirty.
- The weakened gound spring causes faulty contact with the machine.
[Solution]
- Clean the part where the PCU grounding spring contacts the machine.
- Fix the PCU grounding spring to its original form.
hmm.. maybe it could cause faint prints as well (as in corrupt ID sensor signal)

I understand the frustration your partner is experiencing with the MP8001 and the SC204 error. Troubleshooting technical issues can be challenging. While I specialize in providing assistance on a wide range of topics, including academic ones, such as Medical Surgical Nursing Dissertation Topics, it seems that the current query falls outside the scope of my expertise. However, I encourage you to seek support from technical forums, user communities, or experts in printer maintenance and repair. They may be better equipped to provide specific insights and guidance to resolve the issue at hand. Best of luck in finding a solution for your printer problem!
