    '03 fuser noise

Hi, All. I have a couple of new(used) machines, a c4503 and a c5503 that are exhibiting fuser crinkling noises with only 30k on the fuser. I did not find a bulletin on the issue. I have had to relube bearings on previous models to get good life out of the fusers, but those were close to the end of their life cycle. These fusers are rated at 400k, so issues at 30k just seem wrong. Has anyone else run into this?

Can happen at any time. Usually following someone poking at the fuser to free a jam.

A crinkling sound is the kiss of death; seen these rip the sleeves right in two and bend the frame of the belt unit.

What do you mean when you say you have a few “new(used) machines?” Which is it new or used?

Could be a new customer to his service territory or an existing customer just bought a used machine.

Constantly. Even with complete fuser rebuilds (Fusing Sleeve, Pressure Roller, Bearings) beginning to see this after about 25K (FYI - When you take the fuser apart there is no damage to the Fusing Sleeve surface). There were some earlier Fusing Sleeves (MP C2051?) that we were to actually grease the inside of the sleeve where it ran on the sleeve cap.

May be low copy count but how old are the fusers? The inner sleeve lube can dry out just sitting there not moving.

We have experienced that when client is using - even only one - thick paper, you have this issue!
Like someone said here, could be "new" machiens with very old fusers!

Or, it could be I work for an indy and we get low mileage off lease machines from a very large copier exchange. I do get to look at the SMC's of the equipment before we buy to weed out the iffy ones. It keeps us competitive as far as cost goes.
