Intermittent failed to connect to smtp server

I have a MP C5501/D089 with intermittent scan to email "SMTPC: failed to connect smtp server. timeout. ERR:" on the log. I did an infinite ping on both the machine and wall jack and don't see any dropouts, it always works when I'm there. They have another machine on site that is working fine, but next door to the server room. Thinking it might be a traffic thing? any ideas?

Is print affected at the same time? If not, I’d check you have the same DNS servers on both machines

Use the hard ip address of the smtp server

I did make sure the DNS was the same, in fact made sure all the setting were the same, but haven't tried the ip of the mail server.

Thanks, Ill give it a try.

Oh, print doesn't seem to be affected, I asked, everyone says it prints fast no delays.

Then it’s likely a DNS issue. Internal SMTP or external? If internal and the IP will never change, use IP rather than hostname. If external, you’ll have to stick with hostname but can play with the DNS settings. Try google DNS such as 8.8.8.8 and leave it running like that a while.

Like you said traffic could be causing latency in the network.
Try Swapping DNS1 IP with DNS2 IP....

    Eg.
    DNS1 192.168.1.100
    DNS2 192.168.1.200

    ----------Swapped ----------
    DNS1 192.168.1.200
    DNS2 192.168.1.100

I assume your customer is not using a Safe Site DNS Server.
Such be the case, the Safe Site DNS or Family DNS settings will block explicit or hacker web/email addresses by default.

    You write:

That is because they are open sources.
