Every two to three days it goes very light (washed out). If you tone it up it comes back. The developer and drum have been changed calibrated and processed. Machine only has 250k on it. Ideas appreciated.

if you repalce the developer in any other way then the serv.man. prescribes, this trouble might occur.

Light prints(and overtoning and dumping) on the 6002 (and 7502,9002) is unfortunately a known common issue. Ricoh released firmware to help with this issue. Also, see the attached bulletin.TSB Light Images_Toner Dusting_Over Toning.pdf

Anything can be made to work if you fiddle with it long enough- San Diego Copier Repair.com
The first things I used to do when I had a machine that kept getting light in a short time is to clean all toner hazing from the PCU frame, properly clean the ID sensor, replace the cleaning brush and initialize ID sensor SP3001-002.
Does it display low toner messages as well?
I had an MP5002 this week that displayed low toner messages after a toner change.
I reset SP2-976-001 to "0" to reset the toner bottle 'on time' counter and the bottle icon displayed full again but the fault returned a day or two later.
I replaced the toner supply unit because I noticed that the density was light (It had a new pcdu the previous week) and it's fine now.
Machine has 1.5mil on the clock and a new machine has been ordered.

All of the above as well as check toner delivery clutch and are they using genuine Ricoh toner?
At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.
Remove all old developer vacuum developer off mag roller clean mag roller with scotch brite pad install new developer.
If I remember correctly, I thought there was a technical bulliten regarding this problem where the developer unit needed to be replaced. I had an MP6502 go light on me after 85k total pages, replaced developer and it went light again after another 50k or so and I ended up replacing the unit and drum and so far its done well ever since.
This model will lighten the image if the ozone filters are dirty/clogged.
