I've cleaned the mirrors and the underside of the glass but still copies on the glass or through the ADF seem very light. Prints are fine. How do I make copies darker?
Thanks in advance.

Replace/ Rebuild PCU.
I know.... you'll say "but the copies are still clear, how can it be the PCU?". It's just a symptom of this unit as the PCU nears the end of it's life.
It's been covered here countless times
Have you tried cleaning the lamp as well? It might have some dust on it, causing the light images.
...it might also be getting old, and not putting out enough light. I believe the replacement part number is B238 1820.
Good luck.
sp2907 on old machines default is 5 later machines are 6 or 7.
Set them to 10 which is the max.
It is a line width during copy in different modes.
Thanks for the info guys. I’m sorry but my experience with any Ricoh is next to nothing so I wouldn’t know if it has been covered here before. If I replace the PCU (I assume the drum unit) what are the steps needed for replacement? What is SP2907? How do I put the machine into service mode? In order to get this deal my boss agreed to take on this machine for the foreseeable future. It looks too be a OK machine, I just know nothing about Ricohs. Thanks again.
images.jpgUntil you or your boss decides to take just a little bit of initiative I'm personally done.
Even if you/he isn't willing to pay a few dollars for a service manual, I found a free download on my first attempt for this model.
Start there.
Open the Right hand door, and lower the transfer roller away from the drum unit --> open front door --> remove PCDU (Drum unit, [squeeze the front and pull out]) --> Remove toner hopper assembly (green tab, hold down green tab to remove completely) --> Vacuum ALL loose toner you see (make sure to get the quenching lamp (green strip with little lights on it [may have to get yourself low and look up a little to see it, it resides just above the Drum unit] and also make sure that you get the laser unit glass --> if you're sure you got all the toner vacuumed, just below the toner hopper will be a tiny removable cover (one screw I think), this covers the laser glass, pull that laser glass out and clean the toner off of it (if you don't get all the toner vacuumed from the laser unit before pulling the glass, you may have to remove laser unit and clean the inside thoroughly) --> put all units back in and make a test copy.
Let us know if this helps.
Since it is just through the slit glass, check the the doc feeder is properly aligned on the copier.
Get in sp mode (press yellow key 107 and keep pressed red key for n5 sec ) select copy and you are in sp mode.
Select 2 o05 and change value (i think that is the sp mode but not sure if it is not try with other sp 2 004, 2006 changeing values and testing you will find it)
i.e not use sp 2001 because if you turn off and on the old value comes back
