    MPC3503 PCU Problem

    Hey Guys,

Have a MPC3503 that’s flogging the drums out what seems to be way too quick. The attached pictures are a colour drum that’s done 102 935 pages. Drum is shagged but charge roller and everything else look fine from previous units I’ve done usually they wear out evenly I thought. It’s the same for the 3 colours and the black. Black has 158201 on it but is in the same condition. Also can I found somewhere in the smc that shows the percentage of coverage or something like that?

I think this machine does a lot of full page colour A3 posters, PM is 270k but could this be causing the drums to fail so early?

    Cheers

poster SIZE or weight... heavy stock = greater wear om parts

is the machine counting the A3 as or page or double click?

is it always serviced by you?
Is it in a "pig environment wth lots of dust, chemicals, heat?
I just gave up on a low meter 60k mpc3002 that was filthy and even the metal
    parts started to corrode.....
Did you try to wipe the drum to make sure it is not just a nasty film?
DID YOU check the lube bar and roller?
I am not a big fan of the new roller that the lube bar sits on.
The mpc2800,c3001,c3002 all had the one that mimicked the mp6001 b/w drum cleaning roller,

Check the condition of the surface of the ITB. If it is similar to the drums then it is definitely the paper as Phil said. There could also be build up of duct or paper lint on the cleaning blades causing wear.

Are you using genuine Ricoh PCU's? We just tried using non Ricoh kits to rebuild the colour PCU's in an effort to cut the cost of colour PCU's and gave up in disgust when the supposed genuine "Ricoh" drums started to peal the surface off after 30k.
At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.

Are you Remembering to move the Springs for the Lube Bar when replacing the PCU's? If you don't do that, then you will only get about half of the Yield (not the 270k stated in PSG). I don't know why they had to add that "extra step", my guess is that if a "non-tech" were to somehow replace the drum successfully (but not know about the springs), then they will get early failure, and Ricoh or whoever will get another call for that part ($$$$$$ - for Ricoh), really dumb in my opinion. We've had BLack drums go up to around 500k consistently on this series.

Coverage percent I thought was in the 7-xxx section somewhere in the SMC.

Are you using GENUINE Ricoh toner, or aftermarket?

I've seen some aftermarket toner that's very abrasive, and it wipes out drums WAY sooner than their expected life.

Spring move is only needed for 5503/6003.

That's what they say! But we always move the spring, it would be stupid not to. 1/10 of it's yield!!!!!
