the machine might be over toning to compensate a worn drum...
Actually it is more like its actual predecessors, MP1600/2000. As such it is subject to toner buildup on the transfer roller. If the light grey background and the streak is on the lead edge, it is caused by a dirty transfer roller. The streak is possibly where the roller was setting against the drum when not running paper through.

    From the Detailed Description manual:
    12.3 TRANSFER ROLLER CLEANING
If the paper size is smaller than the image, or if a paper jam occurs during printing, toner may be transferred to the roller surface. To prevent the toner from transferring to the back
side of the printouts, the transfer roller requires cleaning before the next printing run. During transfer roller cleaning, the high voltage supply unit supplies a negative cleaning voltage (about –1 kV) to the transfer roller. Any negatively charged toner on the transfer roller is then transferred back to the drum. Then a positive cleaning current (+10 microamperes) is applied to the transfer roller to push back to the drum any positively charged toner on the transfer roller.

The machine goes through the cleaning mode in the following conditions:

    1. Before starting the printing job (only if enabled with SP 2996; note that the default setting is off).
    2. Just after the power is switched on.
    3. After a copy jam has been cleared.
    4. After 10 or more sheets of paper have been copied and the copy job has finished

Non Genuine Ricoh toner or drum will make matters worse. Scrubbing the roller in the sink with soap and water may help for a short period but your best bet is to replace the roller. It SP 2996 is at default, off, turn it on.

    Hi guys,
the problem is still remains! I replaced pressure roller with the new one original Ricoh also the toner is original brand Ricoh. There is two facts, ower tonering you can see on the drum surface and consequence is toner on the transfer roler which made dirty background.

By pressure roller you are referring to the one in the fusing unit, that was the wrong thing to replace. What you need to replace is the transfer roller that presses the paper against the drum and applies the current to pull the toner off the drum and onto the paper.

    Hi there!
Clean the drum-shaft & drum-earth-plate in the drum. When the shaft is smudged you get many quality-problems. Itīs worth a try.
    Greetings...
