Hard drive board compatibility MP 171

    Everyone:

I've got an MP 171 that a custom wants to use for print to mail, which requires the hard drive option. I've check online and I can't find the option available from any of my parts vendors (I'm an independent). If I recall though, the drive and board were common across several other models. Are there other models that share the same add-on board as the 171 that I could try to find instead?

Thanks and a Happy Happy to everyone!

why not just buy a high volume cheap used machine and scrap parts from it..
mp171 and mp201 are pretty cheap and buying the drive, connectors, and mounting brackets might be expensive.......

I had the same thought, but none of the resellers we've contacted have one with the hard drive option. Even when I was with Ricoh directly, I don't recall any of our customers ordering the drive option.

The HDD option for the MP 171 is unique to that product line. The drive itself is an off the shelf drive. You could possibly source or make the cables. The mount bracket is the bugaboo. It is not listed separately it the parts catalog.

But before you go any farther, exactly which MP 171 model do you have. Check the Product Code on the label.
D067 can be upgraded to copy/ printer/ scan but not fax function. Latin America market only
D068 cannot be upgraded to scan/print
D069 Full MFP, requires no upgrade
    D072 Same as D067

It's the D069 build. It already has the print/scan and fax functions.

Did you open it up and see if it is just the HD missing or all the connectors and mount?
Depending on room but you can use some pieces of foam and just connect the HD and
use the foam pieces to put it in place..Ive done wth older machines..

I've enclosed the parts catalogue excerpt for the controller options on the 171. Maybe you'll have more luck finding the individual parts.

It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

That's exactly what I needed. It looks like the PCB for this model cross references to the same board for the MP 2550 and MP 4000 among others. I was able to find one for the 2550 so it's on order.

    Thanks for your help!

Re: Hard drive board compatibility MP 171

    One last follow-up:

The drive kit for the MP 2550 arrived, and the PCB is identical to the one for the MP 171, but the bracket is slightly different. I had to bend the part that would connect to the controller up and away from the board, but the two side screws to the edge of the frame work, and the connector and drive work without issues.

    Thanks for everyone's help.
