scan to folder to PC ok, to lap top failed

    To PC, ok.
To lap top, no good (same log in as PC, same network).
On machine user tools, addressbook, in "map" or "folder" i can get acces to "WORKGROUP" and the PC, but can not connect to my lap top.
Both have the same log in's, both are Windows 7.
    Problem = with a mpc2500 and mpc2051.
On lap top I have disabled wifi and activated LAN connection, no good.

Thank you for helping us out here!

    From PC......browse network.....
    Do you see the laptop?

If yes....can you see the scan folder?....can you create a file in the laptop scan folder from PC?

If no....make sure laptop is a member of WORKGROUP

What version SMB does the MFP in question support?

Is that version enabled on laptop?

Yes, the lap top is visible on the PC.
On the mpc2051, when we enter addressbook than map (folder), and ask for connection, it displays "WORKGROUP", and after selecting that it shows all the hosts in our network. Selecting the PC, connection ok, selecting lap top, no good...

Sounds like the dreaded "NetBIOS over DHCP".

Go into your Network and Sharing Center/Wired or Wireless Network/IPv4/properties, click the "Advanced" button, then select the "WINS" tab and change it from "NetBIOS over DHCP" to "NetBIOS over TCP/IP". Microsoft started doing this on Windows 7, and SMB scan doesn't like the DCHP configuration for NetBIOS.

Re: scan to folder to PC ok, to lap top failed

I'm going to come a long for the ride on this thread......
Coincidentally, I have the EXACT same issue!
This week, I had 2 calls from customers with older units (MP3010, and MP2550). Both had suddenly stopped scanning to to their Win 7 "servers". I tried everything to get it resolved. No luck.
I tossed it up to the machines just being antiquated. I installed and configured Filezilla and moved on.
Yesterday at home, I was trying to scan some pages to my Nearly new MP305+, to my Windows 10 PC and it failed. I usually scan to email, and haven't scanned to folder in some time, so I can't say exactly when it may have stopped working, but I've tried everything I can think of, including the tips in this thread and nothing works- including re-enabling SMB1.
I also have a laptop configured exactly the same, and I can scan to it from the MP305+ without issue.
My PC is not accessible from the Laptop even though it shows up on the Network, and the Laptop doesn't even show up in the network on my PC.
I've noticed that if I try to share a folder it shows the following, and this obviously has something to do with it.
    Screenshot (5).jpg
The "check status" light doesn't come on on the machine, the scanner just immediately goes into "standby:connection error" on the status page.
This thread may be better suited to the 'Connectivity forum', but I thought since it seems that I'm not alone, I'd add my experience to the discussion.
    It's a real head scratcher!

EDIT: I also just did a 'clean boot' of my PC to see if I could isolate an issue, and the results were the same

Amazingly I just had the same issue yesterday on a Windows 7 pc.
7 other laptops and pc’s in the same office all scanning no problem.
tried the Enable netbios and every other “trick” I know including turning off firewall and antivirus with no luck.

Re: scan to folder to PC ok, to lap top failed

Im tagging along. Got 3 calls today (so far) for scan to folder issues.

MP 5001 scanning to Win 7 PC. ( scan to folder fails)
MP C6502 scanning to Win 7 (scan to folder fail on several pcs)
MP C3003 scanning to Win 7 (scan to folder fails)

Noticed there was an update to Windows Defender on 1/9/2019. Maybe causing the issue.

    researching i found this...
    "
Local users who are part of the local “Administrators“ group may not be able to remotely access shares on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 machines after installing the January 8th, 2019 security updates. This does not affect domain accounts in the local "Administrators" group. To work around this issue use either a local account that is not part of the local “Administrators” group or any domain user (including domain administrators).
We recommend this workaround until a fix is available in a future release.

Re: scan to folder to PC ok, to lap top failed

Always check the basics, especially on the computers / laptop. MS updates will often "correct threats". Recheck the folder properties, and the sharing permissions.
Try using an IP address instead of a computer name in the path.
Make sure the computer is on a "work, home or private network" NOT public.
As a last ditch, I have added a new user with administrator credentials and then it works ( go figure )

    Good luck

Re: scan to folder to PC ok, to lap top failed

    Greetings to all.
Microsoft and its security adjustment policies have annoyed us again with the SMB scan, with its latest update in January on Windows 7.
All equipment as they update will stop scanning to relatively old machines, the machine can not access the computer.
We wait for a quick solution, or we will have one more problem.
