Had 2 schools down to one now. The one we have now is a small school with 3 machines 02 and 03s not a lot of calls except paper loading problems and finisher jams. The other school we had actually let their students use the machine that was a nightmare. They pulled one of the guides out of the machine adf because they thought it didnt belong there. Needless to say I'm glad that we dropped them. Nasty people to deal with to boot.

    In Flanders we say:
"de moeilijkste mensen zijn agenten of leraars"
    Translated:
"The most difficult people are police-officers or teachers"

Can you imagine a police-officer who is a teacher in his free hours?
    Oh my!

The most I ever ran to chase an intermittent problem was ~2000 sheets. Customer ran a 10000 page job afterwards while I observed. Generally test with 100 or less, though up to a ream can sometimes be justified.

    --------

My top three nightmare users, in no particular order, are:

    Teachers
    Police
    Nurses / Doctors

Honorable mention goes to heavy industry.

You may want to include some military personnel. I had one dude on an air force base attempt to remove a jam by pulling all the trays out of a older multi tray finisher and left them in a stack in front of the machine. Sheeeesh

Don't ya just luv the "Orangutan factor"...?
Leave a banana sitting on the copy machine after one or two service visits.
Their intuitive enough to finally get the message.

If that doesn't work; Leave a bill for damages under the banana.

    My pick is

Real Estate salesmen, cos they are all self obsessed dickheads
Printers, because they all expect their $5k copier to perform like their $1/2 mill offset press
Transport industry They think everything is built like a Mack truck.
At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.

Re: Repair Guy Uses Tons of Paper

Best just to ask the tech.i had a major client who had high volume canons.no key operator just the mc and the whole office prints to it.mc ran well and in the 3rd year we would get a call once aweek on mc.

we would get there and users would say mc jams all the time.they even put a bob marley pic up on mc "keep on jamming"
and we couldnt see it in serice mode but users where sticking to there story.

when i went there one friday morning i had a idea.

i called the one user with the biggest mouth and i ran 500 pages duplex from each cass. 4 in total. A4 A3 hell i didnt care.mc ran...no issues.i went there the following week for a check up.called same issue and did the same.
i ask them have you had any issues while i was explaining the service modes on how it shows me date and times and how many times..even what cass jam is from.

after the 3rd week i got a answer that they just wanted the mc serviced once a week and they where scared we would charge them for coming out if there wasnt a call on mc.

between my costs of looking like a idiot to my manager and my costs to the company the client had to also fork out the clicks just for them to tell me the truth.

some clients like to see the technician.we dont mind going out by pls be honest with us and stop making us look bad to our managers.

I think the worst are the teachers of the school, I saw instead open the 'rdf, throw it up like when you open a garage, when you open the front panel seems to have made war with the toner, a funny thing: I do not know why but the translator translates in italian"dickhead" into self-taught (auto didatta), I did not know you say "testa di cazzo" in English you say dickhead...LOL...very fun!
