    MP401 / 3600DN Printing issue

    Good afternoon troops...

Am I going crazy, or are both of these machines poorly designed?

I'm getting multiple calls for "voids" on copies/prints, and I have to remove the process unit and clean the laser to address it. A couple of the customers with higher volume units are starting to get annoyed.

Having the LED/Laser array positioned right above the drum seems to be a bad idea....toner dust floats and settles on the lamps.

Is anyone else running into this, or is my cold medicine starting to make me hallucinate?

    Yep....constantly...!!!|
The drum is only good for 40k and once(IF) it makes it's yield it spews toner all over the LED assy.
Hence Ricoh fitting the LED array button on the left that drops the LED.
I keep saying LED because that's what this POS uses rather than a laser unit.
Just an LED strip array to write to the drum.
When you close the front door the LED strip drops down onto the drum surface....great idea..!!!

They are a POS. PCU has been updated about 3 or 4 times, overused ones spew toner out and fill the machine with caked up toner.

I had several where the drum unit was failing WAY too early. Turns out there is a "Filter" mod you can mount to the right side of the machine to cover the vent, to help prevent dust being sucked into the machine and scoring the drum!!

....another "What Were You Thinking?" moment brought to you by Copier Manufacturers everywhere!!

    Hi there!
The filter at the side is no solution at all. But the modified PCDU ( M9060114) with 2 cleaningblades works much better. Also important is the paper-quality. The PCDU works longer, when the paper is not so dusty.
    Greetings...

Ahh the white line down the right hand side! as the customer would say

we have loads of these in warehouses and constanly cleaning the leds.

Always check for a build up of toner under Image Transfer Roller.

A filter sheet is added to prevent the entry of abnormal substance coming from intake fan

These machines and all the way up to the 402 series have these problems. No way around it! The 402's we put out have the updated drums, filters, etc....and still get the void on the left from toner getting on LED. Some customers just clean it themselves, but most of our customers feel they shouldn't have to, and don't feel comfortable doing it. Had a batch of these go out, and 3 weeks later they all came back in (Customer was PISSED). None of the bulletins/ firmware help at all.

Now they have the new IM 430 series, which will clean that LED automatically whenever the front door is opened. Don't have any out there yet, but we'll see if they're an improvement or not.
