In the bible Job ask himself why does evil stroke him so much?
How is the situation now on this "church machine"?

I believe you have a bad HDD. Some of the sectors on it have been damaged causing less available space resulting in longer boot times and other virturial memory issues. Still can format wont help.

Thanks for all of the replies. Some wonderful suggestions. Swapped HDD and RAM, for shits and giggles, with no change. Biggest improvement came when I updated Smart Ops panel firmware. It is installed from an sd-card thru slot on SOP. Don't know why SOP would lose or corrupt firmware, but machine is now running properly.

Had a smart Op do this a while ago, Customer pulled plug without shutting copier down properly. Luckily the f/w update brought it back around.
Another time, had a customer move an MP C306, and when they moved it, they used the op panel as a pushing point, completely took out the op panel (black screen, no lights), but machine would still warm up and try to do its thing. Upon receiving a new SOP, installed it, and had the symptom of the picture of the machine on display being distorted when door was opened. F/w update solved that too.

I suspect that the plug was pulled prematurely this time also. Thanks for the response.
