disable colour function on a Ricoh

    Hoi,
Is there a way to block the colour function?
Because (f.i.) for every start up (or after energy recovery) it developes ID patterns.
We sometimes sell a colour machine for only B&W use, because they have better performance than a B&W.
Now we solve this it with a code (authentication) system...
I don't think there is another way, but do you know any another way?
    Thank in advance!

    Take the:
mp2001, it jams sometimes due to moisture paper => tray heater => very expensive + only heats when machine is off ...
mp2851 fine to me, but no more production ...
mp2852 a little less than mp2851, but still ok, no more production ...
mp3054 etc... sorry, don't like the engine and already had trouble with a counter only 50K ...

What else is there to do but to sell a colour for a B&W use?
At least when you want a satisfied customer !!!

I don't think you can "Turn off" the color function, but you can adjust some SP settings so that it doesn't run Process control as often.

SP 3301-002 I would bump up to 200.
    SP 3529-004 up to 99.
    SP 3530-006 up to 5,000.
SP 3531 down to like 2.
    SP 3533-011 to 5,000.
    SP 3540-002 to 5,000.
    SP 3541-002 to 5,000.
    SP 3600-004 to 0.

We have never had to actually change these settings, and I am not sure what it will do "in the long run", but it's worth a try. Try at your own risk!
I would still be looking to try and sell them just a normal black and white machine. There are some good performers out there (xx55 series is one).

Not sure what there isn't to like about the engine. It's far better than the previous BW machines. I've got at least three or four out there with 600k on the meter and they still run. Probably about 30-40 in the field mostly in prisons and they usually don't require much beyond regular maintenance and customer stupidity fixes.

I have no issues with any of these boxes when serviced properly (can't speak to the MP2001).
Maybe its an environmental thing where you are.
my upfront cost (at least where I am) is also about 1/2 that of the comparable colour model

I agree. The 4054/4055 series is VASTLY superior to the older B@W devices. They regularly run pm to pm for me. The PCDU is a pain in the @$$ to rebuild the first couple of times but there is a PM kit with literally every part you need including the drum and developer. The 240k kit has the Fuser parts and they are amazing.

If you are primarily interested in blocking color printing, you might want to use the Ricoh Print Driver Editor. It is no longer available from Ricoh but you can download it at Softpedia. You have to use it to edit the OEMSETUP before installing the printer driver. The download file includes User Guides in 7 languages.

Simply use a black & white driver.

The MPxx54 series is excellent mono machine it looks just like the MPCxx03 its easy to work on & very reliable.

    Yep...
I just installed an MPC3504 where they used to have an MP7001 and left the B/W driver loaded and locked colour copying out with User Authentication.
Interested to see how badly the colour drums are going to suffer
