I didn't think that any parts or supplies are even available for this darn box.

Did it use a special interface or was it just a regular 40gb IDE hard drive? I did see a bulletin for the machine that Ricoh had started (and no longer) makes a "special" HDD that is 80gb but only reports as 40gb. Likely just through partitioning.

As I remember it is 2 drives operating in parallel. They had a special formatting that installed coding that identified whether it was drive A or drive B. Due to the parallel operation, they had to be replaced as a set. Due to the special coding they had to come from Ricoh as a set.

Re: Ricoh 1224C Network scanning question

    Hi,

the harddisk in my machine is an IBM Deskstar with 40GB and a Jumpersetting for 16 Heads.
This harddisk was installed in many Windows2000-Pentium 3 Desktop Systems,
there is nothing unusual about it.
I opened the controllerboard because I had problem with the FAX module, all Video data was garbage.
The connector to the controller board was the culprit.
Afterwards i was promptly rewarded with the machine throwing a SC672 on me, i forgot to
    reconnect power to the harddisk.....

Ricoh told me in MPC6000 training that we had to replace the drives as a set from Ricoh, that turned out to not be the case. We always put in whatever we had around, as long as both drives were the same size and model.

I don't know if all Ricoh models are the same.

    Hi,

maybe, the MPC6000 uses mirroring and thats the reason it needs two drives of the same size...
In my 1224C, there is only space available for one drive.

You CLEARLY don't realise that this model of machine was around BEFORE wireless was invented

    From the 1224 service book

PRINTER OPTIONS Rev. 05/20031.3.3 WIRELESS LAN (B515)
NOTE: To install the wireless LAN option, the printer option (B463 or B529) mustbe installed first (1.2).
The wireless LAN board the IEEE1394 interface board and the MLB FileFormat Converter cannot be installed in the same machine at the sametime. If the IEEE1394 board or MLB File Format Converter has beeninstalled, remove it.

    2. Remove the standard antenna [B] from the wireless LAN card.
    3. Install the extended antenna [C] on the LAN card, as shown.NOTE: The antenna jack must be at the bottom end.
    4. Twine the extended-antenna wires seven or eight times.
    5. Peel off the backing of the double-sided tape attached to the antenna, and stickthe antenna on the machine.

Re: Ricoh 1224C Network scanning question

The one major problem with the Ricoh wireless interface for this model is that at introduction it use WEP and not the newer more secure WPA. If Ricoh has not changed that you might have trouble getting IT departments to setup WEP access.
