    MP 3352

I have one of these machines that is bending under the lead edge of the copy right at the vertical rollers. Its like the rollers are not turning and the feed clutch is pushing the paper up to fast. This only happens on tray one. Tray two feeds ok. It does not do this every copy. I did the obvious and first replaced feed rollers rollers and the vertical and feed clutches. There is a bulletin about the vertical roller bearing but the bulletin said that was for tray 2. Just wanted to know before I get a new feed unit. They are time consuming to change so wanted to know if anyone has had this problem before I switch it out. Thanks for any input. Oh I also changed the black paper guide also just in case it was bad for some reason.

If the unit has ever suffered a leaky toner hopper or PDCU the paper feed out sensor in the feed unit may have become contaminated with toner. The toner actually gets inside the sensor and will usually require replacement of the sensor. This will be the sensor that is on a bracket facing downward attached near the operator end of the feed unit.

There is no access without removing the feed unit, and that is a treat in itself. If the above is true you will be doing yourself a huge favour by taking the time to really pull the unit apart and vacuum out all the toner under the PDCU and registration area. I can't tell you how many times a coworker slaps a toner hopper in, waves a vacuum wand and dust rag near the area and calls it good.

I've seen a few of these where the PCU has been so trashed that both toner and developer have spilled into the feed unit to the point where replacing it was the only option.

Figured that was what it would be. The customer thought it was a good idea to used canned air on it. What a mess that made. That was about a month ago. I guess it worked into the feed unit. The toner was all over the clutches in the back. Yea it sucks replacing these feed units. Only had to do it one other time. The good news is it a charge customer. The bad news its a customer that cant do c.o.d and takes awhile to pay.
